Privacy and cookies

This website sets no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and shares nothing about your visit with data brokers or advertising networks. In fact it sets no cookies of any kind. That is why there is no cookie banner: the law asks for consent to non-essential cookies, and we simply don't use any. We do measure page speed, which is described below — it uses no cookies either.

The site keeps two small things in your browser's own storage, both strictly functional and never sent anywhere: your light/dark theme choice, and — if you start the study opt-out form — a draft of what you've typed, kept for 15 minutes so an interruption doesn't lose your work. The draft never includes your NHS number.

We measure how quickly pages load, using Vercel Speed Insights. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Each measurement records the page address, your browser, device type, operating system, connection speed and country, along with timing figures such as how long the main content took to appear.

There is no identifier in any of that, and nothing that can connect one page view to the next. It cannot recognise you, build a profile, or follow you around the web — which is why it needs no consent and no banner. We use it for one thing: finding the pages that are slow, particularly on phones and poor connections.
